FBC History

In 1923, a small group of men and women, compelled by a biblical conviction

and command, gave birth to First Baptist Church (FBC). FBC came to life at an
organizational meeting held at the First Methodist Church, Port St. Joe. As the church
grew, property was purchased, and in 1959, the existing sanctuary and educational
space was constructed. Over the years, FBC has given birth to four mission churches.
All have since become independent Southern Baptist churches.

First Baptist Church is currently in another construction phase. The parking is being
expanded and upgraded to accommodate families, friends, and visitors. Excitement
and anticipation fill the air as we envision a new family life center.

The history of First Baptist Church is actually His-story, and it continues. The church
has grown from 12 members in 1923 to 768 members in 2011. The vision is still the
same, as it always has been, to glorify God by seeking to make all people disciples of
Jesus Christ.

There's room for all. Others will come to know Jesus as Lord and become a part of
the Family of God, and a part of His-story at First Baptist Church.
